Notes:

1.       Class A shirt – required for every evening meal as well as for evening functions.  Scouts should also bring their neckerchief and slide to be prepared for Scoutmaster Conferences or Boards of Review.

2.       Class B shirt – recommended for daily wear (Class B shirt is any shirt other than the Class A shirt that has a scouting design or logo).

3.        Shoes – Bring a minimum of two pair to rotate each day.  Even in times when there is no rain shoes will get wet from walking through the morning dew.  Additionally, tennis shoes are ok but consider bringing lightweight trail or hiking shoes.

4.       Water footwear – this is often referred to as “aqua socks” or other swim-type footwear.   You’ll need these for the float trip on the Salt Fork River or for any boating classes.  Open-toe footwear is not allowed.

5.       Flashlight – Something small for use in the evenings.  Headlamps are nice as they provide hands-free operation.

6.       Work gloves – During camp scouts often chop wood and perform a service project conducting trail maintenance.  A good pair of leather gloves is recommended.

7.       Sleeping bag – lightweight, rated for 40f is suitable for summer camping.  Consider bringing a pillow for additional comfort.

8.       Sleeping pad – Since insulation from the ground is not of great concern any type pad or air mattress is suitable.  Think comfort.  Adults may want to consider a cot.

9.       Rain slicker – It usually rains at least once at camp.  Bring a lightweight slicker or poncho.

10.   Towel – Needed for water activities and showering.  Consider bringing a replacement towel for your scout at family night.

11.   Shave Kit – General toiletries for personal hygiene.  Shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc…

12.   Merit Badge Paperwork – This is any paperwork for partial merit badge status or for completed merit badges that can be updated and/or approved.

13.   Scout Handbook – This should be brought to every camping/outdoor activity.  Scouts having this are ready to have advancement requirements signed-off as well are prepared for Scoutmaster Conferences and Boards of Review.

Tips:

1.       Be ready for hot weather and lots of activity.  You’ll need a good, portable canteen or water bottle to carry during the entire camp.  All scouts will have water with them during classes and activities.

2.       Change your socks at least once each day.  This will keep your feet dry and reduce chances for blisters.

3.       Taking a shower will help reduce the chance of getting or spreading poison ivy.  If you do get poison ivy consider using an outdoor skin cleanser.  I’ve had good results with “technu” which is available over-the-counter at most drug stores.

4.       Consider bringing a large plastic tub to store your personal gear in to keep your things dry and organized.   This helps keep one’s tent from getting too messy and disorganized.
